The Power Haus

Polo Club, Sarasota FL

The Power Haus is a tribute to the inspirational designs of Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus school of architecture in Germany in the early 1900’s. One of the main objectives of the Bauhaus was to unify art, craft, and technology. It is our intent to accomplish this with The Power Haus as well.

While the architecture of The Power Haus is clearly born of a contemporary foundation, the construction materials could easily have come directly from the site. There is a generous portion of our native cypress wood throughout the home. The ceilings themselves, are constructed of large cypress beams, exposed to all, covered with a milled cypress decking. Many of the interior doors and trim pieces will also be milled from character grade cypress.

The natural elements of this home continue far beyond the ceilings. All of the interior walls will be adorned with a hand-troweled clay finish. The floors are a mixture of polished concrete and an FSC certified hardwood.

These elements blend wonderfully with the home’s site views. The Power Haus is located adjacent to one of the areas only hardwood swamps that stretches into a natural wetland. The site is spectacular! Great care was taken during planning to design and situate the home in such a way to ensure amazing views from every interior room while not harming a single tree in the process.

The Power Haus will be one of the most advanced homes in the area. Combing Apple’s I-phone technology with a Home Logic interface will provide easy operation of all of this home’s advanced features at the touch of a button from anywhere in the world.

The home is currently a registered project with USGBC for the LEED for Homes program. We expect that it will reach the Platinum level. It is also registered with NAHB Green, FGBC, and Energy Star. The Power Haus will be completely solar supplemented making it a ‘Net-Zero’ home. It will also be registered with Florida Yards and Neighborhoods as well as the National Wildlife Federation.
